As the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) approaches, anticipation is building over who will take home the coveted Artiste of the Year award.

Over the years, this award has often aligned with winners of Album of the Year, showing artistes whose work dominates charts and also shapes Ghana’s music landscape.

From the early 2000s to recent editions of the awards, several artistes have achieved the rare feat of winning both top honours on the same night.

That said, let’s look at some artistes who have swept both 'Album of the Year' and 'Artiste of the Year' awards on the same night. They include:

Daddy Lumba (2000)

At the inaugural Ghana Music Awards in 2000, Daddy Lumba’s Aben Wo Aha was a landmark project, earning Lumba three awards: Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year.

Kojo Antwi (2001)

The second annual Ghana Music Awards took place at the National Theatre in Accra, where twenty-nine awards were presented. Kojo Antwi swept four awards that night: Fontomfrom Music Ambassador, Songwriter of the Year, Artiste of the Year, and Album of the Year.

Ofori Amponsah (2006)
Ofori Amponsah was named Artiste of the Year at the 2006 VGMAs, winning a record seven awards. His hit song “Otoolege” also won Song of the Year, Popular Song of the Year, and contributed to his Album of the Year win. His success that year marked a major turnaround from his 2001 nomination when he won nothing, making 2006 one of the most iconic moments in Ghana’s music history.

Sarkodie (2010)

Sarkodie’s breakthrough came in 2010 when his album Makye won several honors at the Ghana Music Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre in 2010. He was the biggest winner that night, securing five awards, including Discovery of the Year, Hiplife/Hiphop Artiste of the Year, Best Rapper, and Album of the Year.

Ebony Reigns (2018)

Dancehall artiste Ebony Reigns was posthumously crowned Artiste of the Year at the 19th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, which honored achievements from 2017. Alongside this, she won Album of the Year with Bonified and Afro Pop Song of the Year with “Sponsor.” Her song “Maame Hwe” also earned her manager Bullet the Songwriter of the Year award.

KiDi (2022)

KiDi won his first-ever Artiste of the Year award in 2022, having narrowly missed it in 2021. He also took home Album of the Year for The Golden Boy, Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year, Vodafone Most Popular Song for “Touch It,” and Afrobeats Artiste of the Year.

Stonebwoy (2024)

Stonebwoy clinched Artiste of the Year at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards, held at the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Center. He also won Album/EP of the Year, Best International Collaboration, Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste, Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Dancehall Artiste.

King Promise (2025)

King Promise was crowned Artiste of the Year at the 26th TGMA. The Afrobeats star also won Best Album/EP of the Year for True to Self, Best Afropop Song of the Year for “Paris,” and Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year.
