Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur Mzbel has called on preacher Fire Oja to retract defamatory statements he made about her and issue an apology.

In an interview with the media on March 11, 2026, Mzbel, who is currently battling the case with Fire Oja in court, emphasised that she is simply seeking accountability and protecting her reputation.

“It’s not about money for me. It’s rather about accountability. I want him to retract everything he said about me because they’re not true. He should retract and apologise so we can move on. I don’t need his money,” she said.

She added, “The fact that he has even called me a liar is another problem because that’s the reason why we’re here.”

Mzbel added that she does not have any personal relationship with the preacher and had never interacted with him before the issue surfaced.

“I don’t know him, we’ve never met or spoken to him before and I don’t know who he is,” she explained.

She alleged that Fire Oja publicly attacked her simply because someone was using her testimony to promote a project.

“Just because someone is using my testimony to promote her work, you just decided to attack me. You find people who are not on good terms with me to also come and attack me,” she noted.

The musician indicated that she initially believed the matter could be resolved through dialogue, but feels the situation has escalated because of his continued remarks.

“I felt like we could sit down and solve it, but from the way he keeps going, I don’t know. He’s calling me a liar and I’m not a liar,” she said.

Mzbel further explained that the statements made about her affected her work and business activities, especially during a busy period.

She revealed that the controversy emerged around December, a time when she usually receives several bookings for shows and events.

“You woke up one morning to tell the public that they shouldn’t associate with me, knowing very well that my service and my job are with the members of the public. Around that time, it was December when I was supposed to make money. I’ve been called for so many shows, but suddenly, this issue started trending,” she shared.

Mzbel stressed that because her businesses depend heavily on public support, she felt the need to defend her name.

“The youth is what I depend on to market my business. I have a pub, a playground, a restaurant and my music business, so I have to come and protect my name and my business,” she added.

Background

The dispute between the two began after Prophet Fire Oja alleged that the singer suffered serious health complications in 2025 following a visit to a traditionalist known as Ola Maame for what he described as a "soul travel" ritual.

He claimed the situation led to Mzbel being hospitalised for treatment.

The pastor further accused the "16 Years" singer of working together with the traditionalist to deceive women who visit Ola Maame's shrine in Kasoa.

Mzbel, however, denied the accusations and challenged anyone spreading such claims to provide proof that she had any negative experience with the spiritualist.

Through her lawyers, Mzbel later issued a legal notice demanding that Prophet Fire Oja retract his statements, apologise, and pay compensation. The letter reportedly gave him a 10-day ultimatum to comply.

The pastor, however, did not respond to the demands, a move that eventually compelled Mzbel to take the matter to court.
