Veteran actress Irene Opare has addressed misconceptions about kissing scenes in movies, clarifying that most of the intimate moments audiences see on screen are not real.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 on March 6, the seasoned actress explained that many scenes viewers assume involve real kisses are usually created through camera tricks and deliberate filming techniques.

Irene Opare noted that scenes portraying romance are often carefully staged.

According to her, directors and cinematographers rely on positioning, movement, and editing to make it appear as though actors are kissing when, in reality, they are not.

“People think we kiss for real in movies, but we don’t. Let me explain it today because many people believe those scenes are real,” she said.

Irene Opare, who has spent over 45 years in the film and television industry, clarified that although certain productions might require actors to kiss genuinely, that has rarely been the case in her career.

“Maybe some people kiss for real, but I have done a lot of kissing scenes in my 45 years of acting and it’s not real,” she disclosed.

The actress went on to explain that filmmakers frequently depend on creative camera work to make such moments convincing to viewers.

“For me, about 99 percent of my kissing scenes are not real because there is always a camera trick. You put the lips close together, the heads turn, and it looks like they are kissing. That’s all,” she added.
