Ghana’s social media space is an interesting one, where people often log on to relax, have fun, and share laughter.
Over the years, these platforms have also become places where ordinary moments quickly turn into viral sensations.
But anyone hoping to become famous online must understand one thing: if you don’t come with your own brand or identity, social media users may create one for you. And once that name catches on, it can stick for years.
Several personalities have risen to prominence after going viral, becoming known by nicknames or identities given to them by online users.
Long after those viral moments passed, the names remain part of their identity.
Let's take a look at some of those names below:
Starboy Kwarteng
Nana Opoku Kwarteng, father of the late Ghanaian musician Ebony Reigns, gained the spotlight after the tragic death of his daughter in a car accident in 2018.
After her passing, he became a constant figure in the media, granting interviews across television and radio platforms while speaking about the legacy of his daughter.
At the time, cameras seemed to follow his every move as the public paid close attention to the grieving father.
Amid the public attention, Ghanaian social media users gave him the nickname Starboy Kwarteng, a name that caught on.
Years later, many people still refer to him by that nickname whenever he appears in public discussions.
Dr UN
Another personality whose nickname became widely recognised is Kwame Fordjour.
Kwame Owusu Fordjour gained nationwide attention after organising what he claimed was an international awards ceremony backed by the United Nations and the Kofi Annan Foundation in 2020.
The event, however, later turned out to have no connection to either institution.
Several well-known Ghanaian personalities attended the ceremony and received plaques, believing it was a legitimate event.
Among those who received the fake recognition were media personality Berla Mundi, rapper Sarkodie and musician D-Black, as well as chiefs, pastors, politicians and academicians.
When the truth emerged that the awards show had been organised solely by Fordjour without the backing he claimed, the incident went viral and social media users quickly nicknamed him Dr UN.
The name has remained strongly associated with him ever since.
Abusuapanyin Tupac
Before the death of Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, his family head, Kofi Owusu, was unknown to the public.
However, he suddenly found himself in the spotlight following the singer’s passing due to the controversies surrounding the arrangements for the funeral and burial.
During that period, he appeared determined to follow his own decisions regardless of opposing views from some members of the family.
Amid the disagreements and legal tensions that surrounded the situation, he insisted on proceeding with burial arrangements on the date he had announced, even though some immediate family members were reportedly against it.
His strong stance and unwillingness to back down from his decisions led social media users to nickname him Abusuapanyin Tupac, portraying him as someone who moves according to his own rules and refuses to be controlled by others.

Mr Eventually
Another personality who became an internet sensation is a Takoradi-based gentleman nicknamed Mr Eventually.
A driver by profession, he went viral in 2019 after a video of him speaking broken English during an interview that circulated widely online.
His unusual pronunciation of certain words and his distinctive laugh caught the attention of many viewers.
One word in particular, “eventually,” became the highlight of the video because of the way he struggled to pronounce it.
The moment turned into a meme, and netizens began referring to him as Mr Eventually.
Rather than shy away from the nickname, he embraced the sudden fame.
The viral moment opened doors for him, leading to ambassadorial deals and opportunities to travel to other African countries where he performed as a comedian.

Two Thoozin
Another individual who gained recognition from a viral street interview is a gentleman known as 'Two Thoozin'.
He first appeared online in 2015 when he was interviewed on the streets about his New Year wishes.
During the interview, his unique pronunciation of “two thousand” caught people’s attention, which eventually led to the nickname Two Thoozin.
Interestingly, very little is known about him. Many people do not know where he lives or what he does for a living.
Yet every year, around the beginning of a new year, he reappears online to share his wishes with Ghanaians before disappearing again until the next year.
