DJs and presenters in the entertainment industry should desist from making sexual advances toward female musicians before offering them support or opportunities.
This appeal was made by Ghanaian musician Sefa during an interview on Okay FM, where she explained that although she has not personally faced such encounters, she is aware that some women in the industry have experienced them.
She noted that when she first entered the music scene, many of the men she worked with treated her like a sister, which helped prevent such situations.
However, the “Echoke” hitmaker emphasized that it would be inaccurate to claim the issue does not exist, as other female artistes have openly spoken about facing similar challenges.

Sefa believes the situation can be addressed if men in the industry change their mindset and treat female artistes as sisters rather than approaching them with sexual intentions.
“When I joined the industry, many people treated me like a sister, so none tried to make sexual advances toward me. I won’t say such things don’t happen because there are other women in the industry who face it. But I believe it’s something we can navigate. Not every woman you meet should be approached with sexual intentions,” Sefa said.
The singer also spoke about why she believes the Ghanaian entertainment industry appears to be male-dominated.
She attributed this partly to the way presenters and the media promote male artistes more than their female counterparts.
Using her experience as an example, she recalled that when her song “Echoke” became a major hit, she organised a concert at the Ho Sports Stadium in January 2022 and successfully filled the venue.
Despite the achievement, she said the media did not amplify the success as much as they might have if it were a male artiste.
According to her, the accomplishments of male musicians often receive more attention, while similar achievements by female artistes do not receive the same level of publicity.
