The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has come under heavy criticism on social media following a donation it made during the one-week observation of the late legendary gospel singer, Yaw Sarpong.

On Thursday, February 19, 2026, a one-week observation was held in Kumasi in honour of the late musician.

During the ceremony, the union donated GH¢500 to Yaw Sarpong’s family to support the funeral arrangements.

The gesture, however, sparked mixed reactions online.

While some netizens praised MUSIGA for showing solidarity, others condemned the amount, describing it as inadequate and disrespectful to the legacy of the veteran singer.

According to them, the late Yaw Sarpong contributed immensely to the music industry, especially to the gospel fraternity; therefore, the GH¢500 donation is an insult to his legacy and hard work.
