Former beauty queen and entrepreneur Hamamat Montia has been appointed Ghana’s Cultural Ambassador for Shea Butter by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
The appointment was conferred on her at a brief ceremony at the ministry, by Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie.
Montia was presented with a citation in honour of her exceptional dedication, vision and advocacy in promoting Ghana’s shea butter industry globally.
In her address, Minister Gomashie stressed the central role of culture in national development, describing it as foundational, rather than ornamental.

She noted that the appointment goes beyond symbolism, affirming Ghana’s cultural identity and how it is projected to the world.
“I am deeply honoured to preside over the appointment of Hamamat Montia as Cultural Ambassador for Ghana Shea Butter. She embodies the essence of what cultural ambassadorship means in the 21st century,” the minister said.
Hamamat, who is the Founder and CEO of the Shea Butter Museum, expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing the role as a responsibility rather than just a title.
She said the appointment represents the women who protect the shea trees, the communities that preserve indigenous knowledge, and future generations who will inherit the industry.
“For years, I have worked quietly, conserving, educating, and sharing the story of shea butter with the world. Shea butter is not only for beauty; it is a livelihood for millions of women across Africa,” she noted.

The ceremony featured a cultural dance performance and a photo session.
The recognition comes after Hamamat and her Shea butter museum featured in popular American streamer IShowSpeed’s recent tour of Ghana, which drew international attention to the country’s culture and creative industries.
