'I Was Warned About Socrates Sarfo'- Ekow Blankson

Respected Ghanaian actor Ekow Blankson is one of the lead actors who featured in ‘Rhapsody Of Love’, a new movie from the stables of Socrates Sarfo of ‘Hot Fork’ fame. This is the first time the experienced actor has worked with Socrates.

Ekow Blankson told NEWS-ONE yesterday that though people advised him not to act in a Socrates Sarfo movie; he had not regretted playing the role. “I don’t know but a lot of people discouraged me from going to work with Socrates. I mean people in the industry. Some said he is very controversial but I wanted to find out myself so I went ahead and believe me he is not what people think he is,” Ekow disclosed.

He said what gave him the urge to go in for the movie was the script. “I saw the script, read the plot and liked it,” Ekow added. He has undoubtedly caught the eyes of movie producers and directors in the entertainment industry this year.

In the movie, he played Antwi, a nagging husband who, after getting married to his wife, realized that they were not compatible. Eventually, he wanted a way to set himself free and the only way for him was to end the marriage.

However, his dad, Mr. Annang (Nii Odoi Mensah), president of Ghana’s Actors Guild, stood against him, insisting that he did the right thing. Earlier, Antwi had been dating Elorm (Baby Blanche) for quite a long time but due to the latter’s epilepsy, the former’s father was not happy about the relationship.

Along the line, Ofei (Ekow Freeman) met Elorm through a blind date, after his secretary (Phil Ayisi) wrongly dialed a phone number for him. The rest of the twisted tale is what is described as a suspense-filled movie as Ekow tries to fight for what he deserves. Last week Wednesday, the movie was premiered at TV3’s Executive Theatre for a number of movie stakeholders.

Ekow started acting from church and over the years, he has starred in a lot of movies including ‘The Intruder’, ‘Diary of the Black Hustler’, ‘The Saga’, ‘Total Exchange’, ‘A Woman’s Desire’, ‘Frozen Emotion’ and a number of others.

He has also played influential roles in ‘Sun City’, and ‘Broadway’ TV series. Working as a presenter in 1995, he hosted the music programme ‘I Want to Know You’ on Radio Universe. In 1998, he moved to Joy FM. The same year, he was on Metro TV.

Subsequently in 2005, he was made the general manager of Luv FM and Nhyira FM, all under Multimedia Group. Before that, he was the customer relations manager for Adom FM and a part-time lecturer at the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana.
