Meet David Oscar-The Man With Many Parts

David Oscar IF YOU are a lover of entertainment, with particular interest in comedy, both local and imported, then one name that will definitely not miss your attention is DAVID OSCAR.

He is creative, an exciting stage entertainer, well spoken and above all, passionate about the emerging Ghanaian stand-up comedy industry.

“I like what I do as a comedian, and I believe that if we get the right support, Ghanaians will see and appreciate other sensational comedians they never knew existed in this country.”

David’s presence on the Ghanaian comedy scene has been a breath of fresh air.

He is on a mission to create a vibrant comedy industry that seeks to create a wider engagement for equally good and talented young comedians like him who would showcase their works to the Ghanaian market.

Although there has been an inundation of imported comedy (mostly Nigerian) within the Ghana market, David insists “there are equally good comedy materials in this country that can shine any and everywhere, giving the opportunity.”

Riding on the back of ‘GH HUMOUR’, a comedy platform that was recently created by Media Whizz Kids, a full service Experiential Marketing and Activation Agency (together with the personal efforts of David, of course), there is an emerging sense of respect, at least, for the Ghanaian comedian; something that was virtually nonexistent in just the immediate past.

“Suddenly, every young guy in Ghana now wants to be a comedian. If the dozens of calls I’ve received from across the country is any indicator to pay attention to, then we can only align ourselves to exploit the opportunities that may come along with this fast emerging goodwill that ‘GH HUMOUR’ is getting,” David says.

When David was asked about the ‘GH HUMOUR’ show, he said “honestly, launching ‘GH HUMOUR’ was in many a sense an experiment; however, we were pleasantly surprised at the response and patronage. Albeit the rains threatened to disrupt the show on the night, people defied it and came in their numbers.

The whole open air theatre was packed to capacity, with others standing throughout the entire duration of the show.”

On the future of the comedy industry in Ghana, David said “people should discard that assertion that there are no good enough comedians in this country. There are and very soon, these guys will get to showcase their works for the public to know what we’ve got going.”

In an industry where comedians in Ghana are mostly relegated to the background, the creation of ‘GH HUMOUR’ is a step in the right direction. For now, people should expect something positive that is brewing in the pot for Ghanaian comedy.

“Once our road shows take off, we would hopefully reach out to all the major tertiary campuses across the country, beginning with Ghana’s golden triangle of Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi.”

Regarding what David is up to besides launching ‘GH HUMOUR’, David will also be hosting the ‘Laugh a minute’ show to be aired on VIASAT 1 starting from September this year.

The show features a wide collection of funny videos and embarrassing situations of people from across the globe. Viewers will also be treated to videos of pets and animals doing crazy and funny things. ‘Laugh a Minute’ promises to be a great show.
