Another Mentor star on the rise

When Mavis of Mentor 4 burst onto the Ghanaian music scene a few years ago, little did Ghanaians know that God was going to raise her to the feat she enjoys today.

Appreciating what God was doing for her, she decided not to turn back. She released her award-winning album, ‘Obaatan’, which continues to enjoy massive airplay and sales. Not relenting, Mavis is working tirelessly on her next album, which will be used to warn all and sundry about the need to repent in order not to miss out on the judgment day.

Mavis’ flair for composing songs started before she turned ten. Being a reserved person, she used to compose songs and sing all day long to herself. Mavis, who was discovered by the leadership of the Testimony House Chapel International, has promised to take Ghanaian songs to the ‘promised music land’.

She has developed a strong passion for spreading the gospel of Christ through music and feels more confident singing in her native language to promote the work of God. Her title track, Obaatan, a mid-tempo gospel song, often referred to as music for the masses, enjoys considerable airplay.

This fusion of good drum beats, base and rhythm guitar, which are felt in all the songs on the album, makes her music irresistibly danceable. The album has inspirational and soul-soothing songs on it, and though it is very obvious to identify the fact that they were composed and sang by a Ghanaian, the rhythm and modulations in some of the songs can easily be compared to foreign tunes.

All the lyrics advise listeners, especially Christians, to call on God in times of need and as well receive His grace by asking Him. Anyone familiar with some of the songs on the album will certainly be amazed at the transformation they have undergone to appeal to modern ears.

The lyrics of the album are neatly arranged with sensational and inspirational rhythms, making the album unique and pleasing to the ear. If the rate at which the music is receiving airplay is anything to go by, then this new album will certainly worm its way into the hearts of many believers and climb up the gospel music charts.

Born into a large family of talented singers, the young musician has been singing in churches for some time now. Mavis’ ten-track album is a great delight to listen to as the lyrics focus on real life issues
