Carpenter fined for biting customer's ear

Akim Oda (E/R), Feb. 20, GNA - The Magistrate's court at Akim Oda, has imposed a fine of GH¢ 300.00 on Stephen Kwaku, a 36-year-old carpenter, who bit the left ear of a transport operator.

The carpenter, who also hit the victim Mr Agyare Offei's left hand with a saw-blade, pleaded guilty to causing harm.

He would serve a 12-month prison term in hard labour if he fails to pay the fine.

Inspector Wilberforce Kwaku Appiah told the court presided over by Mr. Albert Owusu Annor that the complainant lives at Akim Aboabo while the convict lives at Akim Oda Old Town.

Prosecution said that sometime last year, Mr Offei engaged the convict to produce 24 doors at the cost of GH¢ 1,000 and made part payment of GH¢ 700 to Kwaku.

Insp. Appiah said that the carpenter made 20 doors and each time the complainant demanded the remaining four doors, the carpenter became offended and threatened his life on cell phone.

Prosecution said that on January 21, this year, at about 1700 hours Mr. Offei and a witness in this case spotted Kwaku at Akim Oda Timber Market.

Insp. Appiah said when Mr Offei asked Kwaku why he threatened him, Kwaku hit Mr Offei's left hand drew a sharp saw-blade and bit his ear.
