Achimota Senior High School wins inter-regional school debate

Accra, Feb. 12, GNA - Achimota Senior High School was on Friday adjudged winner of inter-regional school debate competition organized by the Ghana Education Service to mark the 53rd Independence Anniversary. It pulled 86 points when it locked horns in a mental battle with Kpando Senior High School that had 83 points in the finals held in Accra. The debate, which spanned several hours amidst protest from some aggrieved school authorities and students over what they considered as foul play in the declaration of results of winners for the various rounds, drew five schools to compete against each other.

The motion for the debate was "That Resources Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah spent on Liberation and Unity of Africa was to the detriment of Ghana."

The two students from Achimota Senior High School, spoke against the motion and would represent the southern zone in a national debate to be held soon.

Mr. Saka Dramani, Director of Administration at the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, said the debate provided the platform for students to increase their self-confidence, think critically, broaden their knowledge base to enhance oral and communication skills. The competing schools were Mfanstipim Senior High School, Kpando Senior High School, St Roses Senior High, Archbishop Porter Girls School and Achimota Senior High School.
