Thief seeking spiritual help to steal robs spiritualist

Accra, Aug. 19, GNA - A thief who sought the spiritual help of a herbalist in his criminal activities but bolted with the herbalist's items, appeared before an Accra Circuit Court charged with stealing. Ibrahim Mohammed (Jnr), aka Ginola, allegedly consulted the herbalist in the Volta Region for spiritual powers but rather stole his items.

Mohammed, who is being held for conspiracy, unlawful entry and stealing, pleaded not guilty and the court presided over Mrs Elizabeth Ankomah remanded him to reappear on September 2.

Mohammed is said to have pleaded with the herbalist to allow him to pass the night at his house since it was late.

The following day Mohammed, who realised the herbalist was absent, stole his bicycle and a video deck.

The prosecution said while Mohammed was transporting the items a group of people who knew the owner of the items arrested him and sent him to the Police station.

Mohammed confessed to taking part in a series of robberies and mentioned his accomplices as Teller, Joe, Akwasi and Baba, all at large. He was therefore put before court for unlawfully entering the Papaye Fast Food joint on Spintex Road in Accra.

Mohammed and his accomplices are alleged to have stolen three bicycles and two lorry batteries valued at GH¢637 cedis from Papaye in April. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) P.K. Frimpong said on August 3, Mohammed travelled from Accra to Brewaniase, near Nkwanta, in the region to consult a herbalist who would assist him in his robberies. He narrated his intention to the herbalist who turned down his request and asked him (Mohammed) to leave.

Mohammed pleaded with the herbalist to allow him to pass the night at his house since it was late.

The following day Mohammed noticed that the herbalist was not in the house and therefore stole the items.

The prosecutor said Mohammed expressed his readiness to assist the police to identify and arrest his accomplices and identify the various places which they robbed. 19 Aug. 09
