Obuor advises youth to sustain peace during Election 2008

Sunyani (BAR), Oct.13, GNA - Popular Ghanaian hip-life artiste, Obour, also known as Mr Bice Osei Kuffuor, has urged Ghanaian youth to help educate the public on the need to sustain peace and stability in the country before, during and after the December polls. He called on individuals, youth clubs, associations and institutions to campaign and create awareness on the need for peace, especially in the rural communities. Obuor made the call when addressing students and youth associations in Sunyani Municipality after a peace walk through some principal streets as part of a peace campaign tour in Brong-Ahafo region at the weekend.

Students of Twene Amanfo Senior High, Saint James Seminary and Senior High, Sunyani Senior High School, Sunyani Polytechnic and Heroes Inspirational Club of Sunyani and some interested individuals participated in the three-hour walk. Obuor noted that most of the youth joined their peers to engage in violent activities due to ignorance and expressed optimism that students who participated in the peace campaign would help propagate the message of peace in the communities. He said at all places visited, the youth expressed much interest and enthusiasm in the campaign, "which indicates that Ghana would enjoy another peaceful elections this year".

"The reception at conflict-prone areas including Bawku, Bimbilla, Gushiegu and Tamale in the northern part of the country showed Ghanaians' commitment and understanding of peace," Obuor added. Obuor said peaceful elections this year, would depend largely on the manner the youth conducted themselves and appealed to them to refrain from acts that would disturb peace.
