Musicians launch peace advocacy initiative

Accra, Aug. 1, GNA - Peace Train, an advocacy initiative by winners of 2007 Ghana Music Awards, was launched on Friday to highlight the need for peaceful coexistence and unity, especially during the December, 2008 election.

The initiative, sponsored by the World Bank, in collaboration with Premier Productions and the Ministry of Chieftaincy, would run in 18 locations in six regional capitals with a peace concert at Bawku as its climax.

Mrs Nana Adjoa Awindor, Project Coordinator, said the group would gather at Ada for a brainstorming session where suitable lyrics and tunes would be developed for a single album.

She said the group was looking at extending the project into other West African countries to promote peace, stability and economic development. "We are united for peace and development." Shasha Marley, Musician, said music was an art and effective instrument for promoting peace.

He urged Ghanaians to show support for the initiative by strengthening peace advocacy at the office, home and in the larger community. 1 Aug. 08
