Ekumfi AMASS wins debate to mark Golden jubilee

Saltpond, April 23, GNA - The Mfantseman District Assembly has honoured Ekumfi T.I. Ahamadiyya Secondary School (E-AMASS) at Essarkyir for winning the District Second Cycle Schools Debate competition to mark Ghana's 50th Independence anniversary.

The school was presented with a shield and cash prizes for the competitors at a ceremony at Saltpond.

The topic was "That inter scholastic sports impede academic progress".

E-AMASS scored 61.1 points followed by the Saltpond Methodist High School with 55 points while Mfantseman Girls Secondary School and Mankessim Secondary Technical placed third and fourth with 52.7 and 44.3 points respectively.

E-AMASS was beaten to the second position with 66 points by the Wesley Girl's High School, which obtained 68 in the Regional Debate at Cape Coast.

Miss Yakubu Sherifa and Master Gariba Garfar both of E-AMASS and Miss Millicent Morrison and Miss Betty Esi Osafo of Saltpond Methodist High School were presented with cash prizes for their performance. Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, District Chief Executive, commended E-AMASS for lifting the image of the District high in the regional competition.

He gave the assurance that the District Assembly would do everything within its power to ensure quality education in the area.
