Lecturer appeals Adaklus too rejuvenate Glidzi festival

Adaklu, July 29, GNA - Mr Gershorn Yao Dake, a lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), on Friday called on the people of Adaklu to rejuvenate their traditional festival for economic emancipation.

He said the current "divide and rule" style of the festival celebration for the 48 communities of the area was not economically healthy and was fostering divisiveness.

Mr Dake said this at a fund-raising rally held by the Adaklu Students' Union at Adaklu-Anfoe in aid of roofing a block of three classrooms for the Adaklu Secondary School.

Mr Dake said the annual (Glidzi) Festival of the Adaklu Traditional Area used to be a unifying element of the area and had promoted its economic activities. He said the coming together of the 48 communities was symbolic of the unique nature of the area alongside its domestic tourist sites. Mr Dake said most of the community development that was done in the area was during the celebration of the Glidzi Festival. He urged the chiefs of the area to solve their internal problems and revisit the historic festival that that communicated the arts, culture and heritage of the people.

"You have to re-write the positive history of Adaklu", Mr Dake said.

Mr Francis Segbefia, the President of NUASA, said though the union had faced a lot of problems it had a successful had a yearly out-reach programme since its inception to promote education in the area. He appealed to the chiefs, elders and all opinion leaders of the area to remain united so that they could forge ahead with a common goal. Mr Segbefia also called on the people to come together and build a market for people.
