A new organization called the Ghanaian Royals recently had its first annual fashion show and dance at the Beak Cocoa House, Bronx, New York. Tina Opoku Nyarko aka Tina is the President and Joyce Adomako (Vice President). The fashion show was a success and the models showed professionalism and entertained the audience.
The well attended event was jointly hosted by the popular master of ceremonies and comic; Papa Linc and renowned media personality; Lady "gorgeous" D. VIP made a brief appearance and also made a presentation of their latest CD to Ghanaian Royals.
Artistes who performed and impressed the audience were; Akwadaa (aka Godchild), G-Nice, Kilanova and Gospel Hip-hop and R&B heavyweight; Steve Kelly. These wonderful artistes would be performing live on stage at the popular New York picnic, the mother of all picnics.
It has been a long time since Ghanaians in New York witnessed a similar fashion show organized by young Ghanaian women who have decided to come together and make a difference.
Tina and her beautiful compatriots deserve a standing ovation and should be commended for doing something others thought was a waste of time. Amid the discouragement, they never gave up and followed their dreams. Because of their hardwork, dedication and sacrifice, Ghanaian Royals has become a reality and soon will become a powerhouse organization as part of NCOGA. CONCEPT
Ghanaian Royals are group of ladies who have united to help our Ghanaian community in USA and Ghana. The main idea of our 1st annual Fashion show is to raise money to help people, especially in Ghana. Our fashion show will also be an educational show to our fellow ladies and gentlemen and our parents. We want to provide a better quality and positive awareness in our Ghanaian community.
Examples:
HIV/ AIDS is rapid in our community (Ghana/USA). We will be inviting special guests to our community to educate people about preventing themselves from HIV/AIDS and other diseases. With the help from our sponsors, we will be purchasing medical equipment such as quality wheel chairs, walking canes for people with severe physical disabilities in Ghana, because medical help is desperately needed in Ghana.
Poverty in Ghana: Again, with the support from our sponsors, we can organize a food and clothes drive to the needy. These are few examples of what we intend to do as Ghanaian Royals.
Fashion Show:
Educational Fashion show:- I know people might ask what is educational about this show? There are seven scenes in our fashion show,
Business- to educate people how to dress appropriately to job interviews. Don’t wear jeans to an interview because your brother knows the manager, or you are going to an interview at McDonald's so it OK to wear jeans.
Native-we feel that showing where we come from is very important. This is something that respectively signatures us form other individuals, and we should be proud of it. People forget that we are Africans, and we adopt the American life a bit too much.
Creative- Self-expression, Hip hop/Hip life - this is not to fight it’s urban and also culture-expression.
Swimsuit- To build up your self-esteem, basically to feel comfortable with your body, you are beautiful the way you are at the beach.
Sexy- (we dedicating this to our parents), mom and dad!!! We know that it’s stressful in this country, for Valentines Day, Mothers Day, Fathers day, and any special occasion, we want you guys to take time to cherish each other because life is to short.
We also believe that our organization can keep youths off the streets. We are an organization of sisters and we show sisterly love. We welcome all interested in helping us achieve our future goals. As a sisterhood organization, we are not just about fund raising and sending money to Ghana, but also networking.
Thank you and we hope you enjoy the show.
