Paragliding festival enjoyed high participation

Atibie-Kwahu (E/R), April 18, GNA - Thirty people took part in this year's three-day Hang and Paragliding festival held on the Odweanoma Mountain, near Atibie-Kwahu, as against 17 people last year.

A large number of people from all walks of life, who visited the area as part of the Easter celebration witnessed the festival held between Easter Saturday and Monday.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the end of the festival, Mr Joel Sonne, Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation of the Ministry of Tourism and the Beautification of the Capital City, noted with pleasure that people's enthusiasm in the paragliding festival increased tremendously this year.

He said a lot of people, who turned up at the latter stage to participate in the festival at the later stage were disappointed, when they were told that it had ended.

Commenting on the festival, the Kwahu South District Chief Executive, Nana Onwona Asante, described the festival as a "great success" saying, efforts were being made to bring in some of the pilots based in Benin to fly the people on public holidays. He commended the people for showing interest in the festival and assured that efforts would be made to develop the site with the provision of more accommodation and other recreational facilities.
