Ace Ghanaian singer Kwabena Kwabena opines that Ghana’s music industry can not grow because new acts simply do not listen.

Born George Kwabena Adu, made this controversial statement in a phone interview with Happy FM’s Mercy Bee.

“When a new artiste comes into the industry, people begin to tell him that he is better than the older people in the industry so even when you want to advise him, he wouldn’t listen, neither will he humble himself to learn and that is the problem.

“I always say that nobody goes to a party and listens to one song so we are praying everyday that we get new artistes and get new songs, good artistes to celebrate and eventually those artistes will become celebrities we will celebrate. But the thing is, immediately we begin to nurture them, it turns to be something else so that is the reason we can’t grow.” he lamented.

The ‘Asor’ man also pointed out that another reason for the stagnated state of our music industry is the lack of original material and focus of foreign sounds: “we cannot grow because we are not growing authentic Ghanaian music which can give us proper commendation.”

Kwabena Kwabena is set to release his fourth album at the +233 Jazz Bar in Accra, November 30. Titled “Ahyesi” (beginning), the project arrives months after the release of his memoire “Past Days Ahead”. Compered by Kumawood actress Nana Ama McBrown, the launch will also see guest performances from Ofori Amponsah, Asantewaa, among others.

Kwabena Kwabena first broke into the industry lending vocals on Da’ Hammer’s Sound of Our Time compilation album, and with his first major single ASOR (ft. Kontihene). He has gone on to record endless hits over he years, and distinguished himself as among the country’s most respected contemporary highlife singers.
