Popular Ghanaian Photographers, Twinsdontbeg, believe the lens of a camera comes with authority, insisting that once a photographer holds the camera, they can command even the world’s most powerful people.
In an interview with GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar aired on March 31, 2026, the duo spoke about their favourite part of the job, explaining that photography gives them access to spaces and opportunities they might not otherwise have.
According to them, once you are behind the camera, you become the most powerful person in any space you find yourself in.
“Well, the favourite part is taking it. Editing is not nice. And for us, I think it’s how we’re able to enter rooms in different places, because we hold the camera. And once you hold the camera, you’re always the most powerful person in any place because you can command anybody to do anything,” they said.
They went on to recount a moment when they were with former President Akufo-Addo at his office during a meeting with guests.
When it was time to take photographs, they directed the former President, saying, “Excellency, can you come and stand here?” Shortly after, someone approached them and remarked that they were the only ones who could instruct the President to move or position himself that way.
Looking back on the experience, they said it reinforced their belief that photographers hold a unique kind of power.
Twinsdontbeg further noted that photographers are able to command some of the most powerful people in the world because of the value placed on preserving moments and telling stories for the future.
“If you’re a photographer, you can command anybody, even some of the most powerful people because everybody would love their images to be captured right. And memory to be preserved.
“So once you have that power to freeze memory, you are the most powerful. Because people rely on what we’ve documented the last 10, 11 years as photographers. In 50 years to time, if you want to know how Ghana was 50 years ago, they rely on photography,” they added.
