Ghanaian Highlife star Bisa Kdei has shed light on why many music groups tend to collapse despite talent and hit songs.

In an interview with media personality George Quaye, the “Mansa” hitmaker, while explaining the origin of his name, disclosed that he first entered the music scene as part of a group called Boys In Serious Action (BISA).

"My name is Ronald Kweku Dei Appiah. When I was in a group, Boys In Serious Action, I released my first song there, thinking it would help everybody. But eventually, we all decided to go our separate ways. I kept the name," he revealed.

Asked to explain the pattern of music groups falling apart in Ghana, Bisa Kdei pointed to ego and a lack of unity as the root causes.

"People don't really believe in working together as a team. Everybody believes they are right. Nobody wants to look like a fool around the others," he said. In his own case, he noted that different ambitions and work ethics were what ultimately drove the group apart.

"I was into music, but I was also doing motion graphics, visual effects, and a whole lot for myself because I wanted to get there. But I wasn't seeing any seriousness from the others," he explained.

Eventually, the group split up, and Bisa Kdei went on to release major hit songs and became a household name in the country.

Meanwhile, the Telecel Ghana Music Awards has taken up the Group of the Year category for the 2026 edition. The category had been off for a while but was brought back in the 2025 edition.
