Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has explained why he often prefers to organise his own shows rather than rely on promoters abroad.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM on March 11, 2026, the musician stated that disagreements with promoters over logistics and standards are among the main reasons he sometimes avoids promoter-led events.

According to him, issues such as accommodation and transportation often create tension between him and the show organisers.

“When I go to London to play a show, the promoter can’t afford the place I want to sleep, so it’s going to be a problem for the promoter and me. The car I want to drive or be chauffeured in is another problem,” he said.

Because of these challenges, Shatta Wale said he finds it easier to organise his own events to ensure everything meets his expectations.

“I would prefer to organise my own show. I don’t like to do things to impress people. If I’m doing the show, I’m doing it for Shatta Movement but not for Ghana music,” he stated.

The artiste also criticised the structure of the music industry in Ghana, stating that it affects the business side of music.

“There’s no structure in the Ghana music, and they spoil the business,” he shared.

Shatta Wale further explained that aside from the challenges with promoters, the stress associated with organising shows also contributes to his limited performances abroad, although fans sometimes misunderstand the situation.

“Me not organising shows around is one with the promoters. Secondly, the stress from that but sometimes, the fans don’t get it,” he noted.

He revealed that he and his team are currently working on organising the Shatta Fest in London.

According to him, the event is being financed and organised by his team with support from Akwaaba UK.

“Recently, we have been trying to organise Shatta Fest in London and I’m doing it myself with the team. We’re paying for everything and partnering with Akwaaba UK to do it,” he said.

Shatta Wale also acknowledged the role of the founder of Akwaaba UK, Dennis Tawiah, noting that despite the difficulties involved in promoting events, he remains one of the most reliable promoters.

“Akwaaba UK knows perfectly well that it is difficult, even though he is a very good promoter. He got me my first $100,000 deal in Ghana,” he added.
