Who succeeds Precious Agyare

Scouts have begun searching for the next Miss Universe Ghana following the launch of the 2002 pageant in Accra on Thursday.

The prospective candidate should be an achiever, intelligent, dynamic, savvy, charismatic, articulate, stylish, beautiful and career-oriented. She should also be a young professional Ghanaian woman, a graduate or a student in a tertiary institution, aged between 18 to 24 and at least 5ft.7ins.

Since its inception in 1996 the Miss Universe Pageant has supported and groomed young women in the country in the areas of public speaking, communication/interview skills, financial management and stress management and relaxation techniques and many more.

The concept for this year’s pageant is "The future of the Universe" which is envisaged to be the major fiesta. Queens of the Miss Universe Ghana are tasked to spearhead the campaign against the deadly HIV/AIDS disease and encouraged to go into humanitarian activities.

The present title holder is the charismatic and enthusiastic, Precious Agyare. She is championing the cause of HIV/AIDS education and research with a special commitment to the care of people living with the disease and to effect attitudinal changes in the society towards the epidemic.

The Executive Director of the pageant, Ms. Juliette Korsah expressed the organisers appreciation to the press for their tremendous assistance over the years.

She also thanked the sponsors and the general public whose interest and support have sustained the pageant to date.

Announcing the awards package for Miss Universe Ghana 2002 she said the queen receives a fully furnished luxury townhouse that is an official residence of Miss Universe Ghana 2002 courtesy of Akuaba Ltd., a car, cash award of C4 million cedis and an airline ticket to represent Ghana at the 51st annual Miss Universe pageant.

In addition, she gets a personal appearance wardrobe, a C3 million educational grant and a 2-month career internship programme.

The first runner-up goes home with a living room suite, a DVD player, C3 million cash award, C2 million educational grant and a two-month career internship programme.

A dining hall suite, a 20" television set, C2.5m cash award, C2m educational grant and a 2-month internship programme goes to the second runner-up.

All finalists receive: C2m cash award, educational grant, finalist allowance, competition wardrobe for participation.

Other awards include Miss Photogenic, Miss Congeniality and Style Award.
