We are willing to have an out of court settlement with Taabea TV – Ralph Asante

CEO of Taabea CEO of Taabea

Ralph Asante, an advocate for youth in agriculture, has disclosed that he is willing to have an out of court settlement with Taabea TV, an institution that used his intellectual property without his consent, only if the latter is ready and cooperative enough to settle issues outside of the court.

Ralph Asante who spoke to Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM’s News-Review this morning, said Taabea TV hasn’t been cooperative since he first approached them on the use of his song in their commercial, and that triggered him to file a law suit against the TV station.

He recounted that he saw the commercial about 6 months after it had aired, and the commercial was also uploaded on YouTube, with the song he composed to empower the youth to venture into agriculture.

Ralph Asante revealed that he has sued Taabea TV for $200,00 which covers about half of the costs incurred in producing his song (both audio and video). According to him, the song was recorded and produced in Ghana, but the video was shot abroad.

In Taabea TV’s defense, according to Ralph, the current management took over management of the TV station’s operations after the previous management had used Ralph’s song for their commercial. Ralph, however, asserted that if the current management has taken over assets, then it is prudent they take over liabilities.

The case is currently handled by The Kumasi High Court.
