Wanlov The Kubolor Talks About Hit Song "In Ghana"

VIDEO

Wanlov Owusu-Bonsu aka Wanlove The Kubolor, US based international and multitalented artist (Bob Marley lookalike from Oseikrom who also speaks Ga and Twi fluently) exclusively explains in his own words how he came about the hit song; "In Ghana" which has set the entire planet buzzing.

Two years ago I was in Vicksburg, Mississippi @ Slang-Game Studios making some music with Gibril the African. While we were taking a break I was thinking about Ghana and listening to a beat by Kanye. The horns in the song (PAH NAH NAH!) reminded me of Highlife music. Then it just hit me, "IN GHANA!". I hadn't been home since I came in Jan 2000 so I was missing Ghana soo much! I wrote all the lyrics right there on the spot because I was feeling the spirit heavy. Then I got in the vocal booth & just dropped the whole 3 minute verse in 1 take, no adlibs, no hook. As for the video I used pictures I gathered online & footage from some of my shows in yankee to create it. The song has gotten so much love from Ghanaians & non-Ghanaians all over the world! I wish to do a fully live video once I make it back home.
I tried going home in 2001, but they returned me to the states from London because I didn't have a transit visa. British Airways play me card. A few months later I got into immigration problems with INS because of school fees. So I have been stuck here since INS released me from CCA in Laredo in 2003. They told me I will be in court in 6 months for deportation. It's been about 3 years since then and they still haven't processed my case. My lawyer says it's either so backlogged or they have lost my file altogether. I doubt the latter.
If I leave the country before they call me to court they will say I run away from prosecution and that is voluntary deportation so I can't come back for over 7 years. So I had been hoping to be called to court and either giving a status change or told to go home because then I can return in about 3 years.
Now I have a wife and son here so hopefully I should get a travel permit soon. I will forever regret if I don't make it to Ghana this 50 th, but the almighty knows why so we give thanks. I have an album called "Green Card" coming out in March so anywhichway, The Kubolor in spirit go be felt heavily heavily "IN GHANA" this March!!!
