Visual Art Department of Wesley Girls to mount exhibition

Kumasi, June 15, GNA - The Visual Art Department of Kumasi Wesley Girls High School will mount an exhibition on June 24 as part of efforts to whip up interest in visual art among students. Mr Kwaku Ameyaw-Benneh, Head of the department, said the event would bring together about 15 second-cycle institutions in the Ashanti Region who will display their work in the various disciplines of study in visual art.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the school on Monday, he urged stakeholders in education to encourage the study of visual art by students.

He said sculpture and artefacts made by students in pictures, textiles and basketry could be improved and sold to earn foreign exchange and also to boost tourism.

Mr Ameyaw-Benneh appealed to school authorities, parents and corporate bodies to resource visual art departments of schools to function properly.

School authorities, he said, should also strive to mount frequent exhibitions for visual art students to upgrade their skills and knowledge.
