Video: Yvonne Okoro celebrates birthday @ Dzorwulu Special School

Popular Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Okoro, marked her 29th birthday on Monday, November 25.

She decided to celebrate the day by commissioning a playground she built for disadvantaged persons at the Dzorwulu Special School in Accra.

The Special School houses a number of special children and the playground by Yvonne was to provide a recreational platform for students to entertain themselves.

The gesture emphasized the actress’ commitment to giving back to society and also trumpeted her affection for special people and children in particular.

Joining her to commission the playground was Deputy Minister of Education, Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Other personalities were popular actor John Dumelo, Sandra Ankobiah, Irene Logan, Roseline Okoro, and ex-Black Stars skipper, Stephen Appiah, among others. They supported the award winning actress to also cut her birthday cake.

Speaking at the ceremony, Yvonne Okoro congratulated officials and inmates of the school for their patience and support throughout the whole project and also allowing her to make an impact on them.

She said she was motivated to build the playground because she felt the students also deserved to play.

Two years ago, she was in the school to celebrate her birthday with the students.

“When I was leaving, I realized that the playground was in a deplorable state. The metals were all rusted. So I told myself that, I won’t stop till I’m able to provide a good recreational center for the students of this school so that at the end of the day, they can also pride themselves of having a beautiful playground. That was the most important thing for me. And I wanted to thank everyone who supported this project,” Yvonne said.

Headmistress of the Dzorwulu Special School, Madam Veronica Sackey congratulated Yvonne for her kind gesture.

“Indeed this was one of our numerous pressing needs which has been met today and I’m delighted. We can all attest to the fact the playground has transformed the front view of our institution,” she added.

On his part, Honorable Okudzeto Ablakwa also commended the Contract actress for the project and used the opportunity to also speak about Government’s position on education.

Among other side attractions at the ceremony were a dance performance by some of the students and also a rendition of Ghana’s National Anthem by iconic songstress, Irene Logan.

Both invited guests and students were thrilled to good music from DJ and also treated to pastries sponsored by Bakeshop Classics and food by Grill Bar Filli B at East Legon.
