Viasat 1 to fly Right to Dream to Norway

Local entertainment Television channel Viasat 1 is set to fly nine 12 to 14 year olds to Norway this month, to participate in the 2011 MTG United for Peace Tournament. From Thursday 6 – 9 October the international MTG United for Peace Cup Final 2011 will be played in Oslo. Boys and girls from twelve countries will play against each other, but more importantly meet and become friends with their peers from other countries and backgrounds

The winner from Ghana was Right to Dream Academy (the academy is in partnership with Vodafone) and they thus earned a place in MTG’s international football tournament- MGT United for Peace, which aligns itself with the Nobel Peace Prize activities for this year. They will play teams from 11 other countries where MTG – Modern Times Group AB – has TV-stations. In July this year, the 12 to 14 year old team of the Academy came out tops at the MTG United for Peace Ghana Tournament at Old Akrade, organized by Viasat 1, an operating company of Modern Times Group (MTG).

MTG United for Peace arranges local youth football tournaments for 12-14 year old children from Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Africa and the UK. The winning teams are invited to represent their countries in the MTG United for Peace Cup Final in Oslo coinciding with the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. The children will have fun and learn important life skills, when they play football, make friends in between matches, as well as attending the interactive “School of Tolerance” hosted by the Nobel Peace Center.

The MTG United for Peace Cup Final 2011 will be played on Friday 7 October and Saturday 8 October. After the main tournament, there will be a mixed tournament and later in the evening an informal all-star tournament where former star players like Fredi Bobic, Viv Anderson, Lee Martin, Jan Åge Fjørtoft and Brian Deane will play against each other.

Last year Cestria Girls (from the UK) and Right to Dream (from Ghana) for the boys lifted the trophies (for girls and boys divisions respectively) after beating 10 other participating teams. Cestria Girls (from the UK) won with a score of 3-1 against Team Romerike (from Norway). And Right to Dream (from Ghana) finally came out on top for the boys after an exciting game against Nõmme United '97 from Estonia (1-0).

This year Right to Dream have full intentions of retaining the cup. Captain of the team Evans Mensah said, “We are very excited to go to Norway to participate in this year’s tournament and we are even more excited to go there to defend our title as cup holders. We will make Viasat 1 very proud”.
