Viasat 1 teaches Peace: Holds MTG United for Peace Tournament

As part of its corporate social responsibility programs for the year Viasat 1 is organizing the second edition of an under-14 charity football tournament in Old Akrade in the Eastern Region. The tournament dubbed MTG United for Peace is a charity that seeks to teach adolescents the tenets of peace and conflict resolution. The program takes two main parts; the first is a 7-aside football tournament for 12-14year olds and the other is workshop on peace. The MTG United for Peace tournament is a syndicated effort by all Modern Times Group countries. The winners of the tournament will be flown to Norway to play teams from 21 other countries where MTG – Modern Times Group AB – has TV-stations.

The MTG United for Peace was launched in 2010, in partnership with the Nobel Peace Center and the Norwegian Red Cross to tackle racism and intolerance head on. The aim of the charity is to let children make new friends, experience that being open-minded can lead to great things and learn how to tolerate and respect others. The football pitch is a great place to start!

Viasat 1 believes the pitch is a safe place to meet, for education and integration, to learn more about each other, about the importance of anti-racism and to embrace multiculturalism. On the pitch and at sessions in the classrooms the children will understand the importance of peace, tolerance, respect and cultural diversity. The Ghana tournament comes of Friday 29th July 2011 at the Right to Dream Academy football pitch in Old Akrade near Akosombo.

Last year, winners of the Ghana tournament- Right to Dream Academy- won the Norway stage of the tournament for the Boys while Cestria from the UK won for the girls.
