Valentine's Day is not for sex -Pastor

Accra, Feb. 11,GNA -Valentine is a day to show love to the poor and needy, and not for illicit pre-marital sex, Pastor Victor Olukoju, Executive Director of WAIT International, a -non-governmental organizational said on Saturday.

He said the celebration, which originated from the achievements of the Roman Saint Valentine, had now become a day for sexual impurity, especially in most African countries.

Pastor Olukoju was speaking at a Valentine Megafest of dance and drama, organized by the sexual purity NGO, to educate the youth and singles on the need to abstain from pre-marital sex, coming this Valentine's Day.

He condemned the situation where by there were normally condom shortages during the occasion, saying, " this is very alarming, and I think it is time we do something about it".

The Chief Director said, as a demonstration of the true meaning of Valentine, his NGO, together with some students, visited the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Fevers Unit early morning, and present detergents and toiletries valued about two million cedis to some patients. He said the visit was to give students the opportunity to see and interact with the patients in order to give them courage to acknowledge that HIV/AIDS was real.

Pastor Olukoju urged all religious leaders to jointly condemn acts of indiscipline during the season, in order to ensure that Valentine's Day would have a positive impact on society.
