Ghanaian actress with Greece lineage, Nikki Samonas is rooting for dancehall artiste, Charles Nii Armah, popularly known as Shatta Wale as the Artiste of the Year at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).

According to Nikki Samonas, Shatta Wale deserves to be crowned Artiste of the Year because he has worked hard the year under review.

“I will put Shatta Wale first, then maybe Bisa Kdei will follow because Shatta gets on the stage and can do five songs and everybody is on their feet,” she said on Daybreak Hitz with MzGee.

Nikki indicated that Shatta Wale’s ‘Kakai’ is a hit song and she is sure it will be in the system for long. Shatta Wale’s nomination is still in contention as the VGMA board is yet to decide his fate. This follows his warning to the organisers not to nominate him and subsequent remarks they consider defamatory.

Some artistes have been tipped for nomination as Artiste of the Year considering their performance in 2015. The list includes Bisa Kdei, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale. However, Nikki Samonas believes rapper, Pappy Kojo also deserves to be nominated.

“I will add Pappy Kojo to the list. When I look at working prospects, I will add him because he has been releasing a hit and I think he has also done well,” she mentioned.

The Artiste of the Year, according to the description by organisers, is the topmost award at the Ghana Music Awards, given to the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as having the highest audience appeal and popularity. The artiste(s) must have released a hit single/album during the year under review.
