Unilever organizes quiz for selected schools in Tema

Tema, June 08, GNA - Unilever Ghana Limited has organized a quiz for selected schools in Tema to sensitize students on the need to protect their environment.

This forms part of activities marking the World Environment Day (WED), which fell on Friday, June 5. The WED, established in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly, is commemorated yearly to stimulate world wide awareness on the environment as well as political issues. The Saint Paul's Methodist Preparatory School, Twedaase Junior High School (JHS), Manhean ST. Peters and Oninku JHS participated in the quiz held under the theme: "Your Planet Needs You - Unite to Combat Climate Change."

Ms Bernice Natue, Corporate Relations Manager said in a speech read for her that the quiz was intended to highlight pressing issues which threatened the safety of the environment. She said there was the need for all to adapt to life saving measures to protect the environment from degradation. Ms Natue expressed Unilever's commitment to pursue responsible practices that would impact positively on the environment. She urged the students to avoid indiscriminate littering and form environmental clubs to undertake clean up exercises to serve as an example to the public. Mr Gabriel Kortei, Assistant Supervisor of Tema Metropolitan Education Unit advised the students to be environmentally friendly. St Paul's Methodist Preparatory School won the quiz followed by Twedaase JHS which took the second position, while Manhean ST. Peters and Oninku JHS took the third and fourth positions respectively. Assorted Unilever products were presented to all the contestants and their schools. 08 JUNE 09
