'Uncle Opia' laid to rest

Sekondi, Nov. 26, GNA - The mortal remains of Mr Albert Mensa Nunoo, also known as Uncle Opia and a veteran broadcaster in the Western Region was buried at the Ketan Estate cemetery near Sekondi on Saturday. Mr Nunoo 63, died at the Effia-Nkwanta Government Hospital about three weeks ago after a short illness.

He joined Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in 1965 as an Akan newsreader and hosted musical and entertainment shows on radio and television until he retired in 1997.

Later Mr Nunoo joined Skyy Power FM and Television in Takoradi and hosted programmes including 91Time with Opia' and 'Obaa Sima'.

Right Reverend John Harvey Ewusi, Diocesan Bishop of Sekondi Methodist Church in a sermon said the late Nunoo left a legacy in the art of broadcasting for young people in the profession. Media practitioners, Chiefs, the Clergy and school children were among hundreds of mourners at the burial. He left behind a wife and six children.
