UG wins inter-university Islamic quiz competition

Kumasi, April 5, GNA - University of Ghana emerged champions of the maid= en inter-university Islamic quiz competition held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) law auditorium in Kumasi, scoring 48 points.

For their prize, they received a shield, certificate and souvenirs. Islamic University College of Ghana came second with 47 points, whilst KNUST placed third on 45 points with University of Cape Coast and the Kumasi Campus of the University of Education-Winneba, picking 35 and 33 points, respectively, to take fourth and fifth positions. They were all presented with certificates and souvenirs.

The competition was organized by the Ghana Muslim Students' Association (GMSA) to foster unity among students of the participating universities.

Besides, it was also meant to help deepen their knowledge in Islam. Sheikh Nuhu Sharabutu, the National Chief Imam, in a speech read for him= , urged the students to constantly read and study the Holy Quran to become well-versed in the tenets and doctrines of Islam. This, he said, would undoubtedly help them to lead upright lives and achieve progress in life. Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase, appealed to Muslim philanthropists to contribute both cash and in kind towards the construction of a Mosque at KNUST.
