Two female Ivorian asylum seekers quarrel at Takoradi Market Circle

Takradi, April 1 (Arthur-Mensah) -- Drama unfolded at the Takoradi Market Circle on Friday afternoon when two female Ivorians suspected to be asylum seekers engaged each other in hot quarrel that attracted a number of onlookers to the scene.

The two females who were quarrelling in fluent French wore opposite white T-Shirts with portraits of their political idols, embattled Laurent Gbagbo and internationally recognized winner of last November disputed polls Alhassan Quattara embossed in them.

Interestingly, the altercation reached a fever pitch point when the one wearing the Gbagbo's T-Shirt pushed her opponent and a scuffle ensued between them but they were quickly separated by the onlookers who were visible enjoying the squabble even though some of them did not understand the French kept on shouting "Gbagbo and Quattara in Ghana Part 2. Gbagbo and Quattara in Ghana Part 2 Gbagbo and Quattar= a in Ghana part 2=85.".

Some of the onlookers also kept on saying "You'll be arrested by the police if you fight.you'll be arrested by the police if you fight=85..amidst shouts and cheers from the onlookers.

Unfortunately, this reporter also did not understand French and therefore could not ascertain exactly what brought about the argument.

In recent time, the twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi had been inundated with so many Ivorians some staying in hotels and rented apartments as a result of the heightened political upheavals in the neighbouring Cote d'Ivoire.

Meanwhile, the majority of the asylum seekers were being accommodated at the Ampain refugee camp in the Ellembelle District and Eagle Star reception centre at Elubo in the Jomoro District.

They are being catered for by the UNHCR, NADMO, Ghana Refugee Board and other donor agencies.
