Toyota supports CAN 2008 Poem competition

Accra, Aug 18, GNA 96 Toyota Ghana Limited, has donated 50 million cedis to support the poem competition being organised by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of Ghana CAN 2008.

The competition, which is to create awareness about the competition and also unearth talents, will see the best poem being adopted as the official poem for the 26th Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ghana between, January 20th to February 10.

The presentation which was made Mrs Ama Orleans-Asante, Assistant Public Relations Manager of Toyota Ghana Limited expressed her company's delight for being part of the organisation of the biggest soccer fiesta in Africa.

She said the company's contribution is to unearth exceptional talents that abound in every sporting sphere of endeavour in Ghana. According to the LOC, the winner will take home the ultimate prize of 30 million cedis, whilst the remaining 20 million cedis will be channelled into the organisation of the competition. A statement from the secretariat of the LOC, said poets and writers who submit their works for the competition must incorporate the theme of the tournament 93Sharing Passions=94 as well as other messages to encourage people from all over the world to Ghana, which is the centre of the earth to watch Africa's greatest football tournament. The competition is on-going and will be closed on Monday 21 and the ultimate winner will be unveiled at the global launch of the competition at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Friday, September 8, 2005.

Alhaji Issa Hayatou, President of Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) will be the Special Guest, which will be telecast live on some selected television and radio stations from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. It will also be fed live simultaneously onto two websites, www.ghanacan2008.com and www.cafonline.com.
