Top US-Based GH Designer Shakes Fashion Industry

GHANAIAN INTERNATIONAL fashion designer based in the United States of America and CEO of Kustom Looks, Kwab Asamoah, is expected to shake the foundation of Ghana’s fashion industry with his US experience.

The 36-year-old designer has expressed interest in taking Ghana’s fashion industry to a different level, adding that he would give existing and local designers a run for their money.

Kwab Asamoah has for the past 5years been plying his trade in the US. Within that short period, he has been able to develop a small clothing line business, operating from his home and has done jobs for top tycoons across the world.

The top designer and proud Ghanaian returned home some few days ago. He told BEATWAVES in an exclusive interview that there are a lot of fashion opportunities in Ghana, noting that informed his choice to return home to take advantage of the prospects and establish a huge fashion base in Ghana.

Currently, he is planning a massive inaugural homecoming Kustom Looks fashion show and launch party, slated for December this year.

The show will be held at the rooftop of Silver Star Towers in Accra. The launch party will be the official introduction of his affluent fashion and lifestyle brand to Ghana’s market.

Almost 5 months to the big event, he is already on track with preparations. Last Saturday, he held an audition at Silver Star Towers to decide on models for the event. Until the final night, selected models for the event will undergo grooming sessions.

“This actually will be my first show here in Ghana and my goal is to help people introduce customized brand for custom tailoring companies that make clothes for your body and not anybody. Back in the United States, we have our own factory and we produce our own fabrics and collections.

By December, we hope a Ghanaian will be able to go online and interact with our designers about the kind of designs they want. We will make it and ship it to you like we do out there in the US.”

He said the upcoming show will not be the usual trend of fashion shows organised in Ghana. It will be totally different with a touch of class. Industry players and fashion enthusiasts, he advised, should be patient and wait for the big show.

This year, Kwab was given the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for his outstanding contribution to the business and fashion industry in the US.

The Ghanaian, born in Kumasi, has a dual degree in Engineering and Physics, and is also a computer consultant, but his true passion is fashion.

Today, he has single-handedly made outfits for 10% of executives that comprise the Top 100 Black Businesses in the United States. He is easily and always recognized by his signature tape around his neck.
