Today is exactly 9 years after Terry Bonchaka’s death

Today Tuesday, October 30, is exactly nine years Ghanaians were hit with the sad news of the death of talented Hiplife musician Terry Bonchaka, born Terry Adjetey.

Terry, who was the grandson of former Speaker of Parliament Peter Ala Adjetey and graduate of Adisadel College, died in a car crash after a show at the University of Ghana in October 2003.

Terry's first place in the Miss Ghana Music competition along with his appearance on Joy FM’s Night with the Stars concert shot him into prominence on the Hiplife scene.

He died unexpectedly after thrilling fans with several hit songs including his iconic Pulele song which came with a unique dance.

Musician King Ayisoba, a good friend of the late artiste shared fond memories of him in an interview on the Taxi Driver show on Hitz FM hosted by Blakk Rasta.

“Always I remember Terry Bonchaka. Terry Bonchaka also tried to bring me out. I met Terry Bonchaka that time I worked as a security man at Dome Hotel in Kokomlemle and one man, Kiki introduced me to Terry Bonchaka. He told Terry Bonchaka this man [I am] a good Kologo player,” he narrated.

Sound engineer Zapp Mallet, who recorded Pulele and Ghana Lady which were Terry’s maiden hit songs also shared some memories of him.

“Terry Bonchaka was a vivacious, lively, bubby full of fine type of guy that I knew very talented, very energetic. I never [saw] with him any frown on his face. With all the years that we worked together, Terry was so much fun to be with, I handled Terry right from the beginning,” he recounted.

Zapp added that, “I was close enough to Terry musically. Terry had so much in him, he was somebody who would wow a crowd, he could just swing a show towards his side and carry the whole crowd and carry the day. That was one of his big strengths; he was on top of his game.

Watch Terry on this;
