Three men remanded for stealing computer CPU

Tema, Feb. 19, GNA - A driver's mate and two unemployed men were on Tuesday remanded by the Tema Circuit Court "B" for stealing 30 computer Central Processing Units (CPU) costing 70 million cedis.

Emmanuel Azaguner, Dodzi Ayawe, both unemployed and Kodjo Ayer, driver's mate, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and stealing. They will reappear on March 2, 2004.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Teye Martey told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that in December 2003, Mrs Bennedicta Aku Galley, received a quantity of assorted goods including bicycles, television sets and CPUs from Japan and stored them in a house at Kpone where the accused persons also lived. He said on January 13, Mrs Galley took stock of the goods and discovered that 30 CPUs had been stolen and made a report to the police at Kpone.

The prosecution said in the course of investigations, the three accused persons were arrested on suspicion three days later and granted police enquiry bail.

When they were re-arrested, the accused persons admitted in their caution statements that they stole the items, but had sold them to some people in Tema.

Inspector Martey told the court that the police were expecting the accused persons to help them trace the items.
