Teacher and two old men on bail for offensive conduct

Elmina (C/R), July 7, GNA - A teacher and two fishermen from Ankwandah near Elmina in the Central Region were on Friday granted 40 million cedis bail with a surety each to be justified by a district court for offensive conduct. Peter Kofi Arthur, the teacher, Kodwo Abakah, 70, and Kodwo Bommah, 80, both fishermen, pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on July 15. The case for the prosecution was that the three accused persons were leaders of a faction seeking to de-stool the chief of Ankwanda, Nana Kobina Ankwandah III. On June 23, the judicial committee of the Edina Traditional Council hearing the case adjourned it to July 14 and the three men flared, shouting that they would not attend the hearing again. The prosecution said the three men shouted that they no longer recognised Nana Ankwandah as their chief, threatened to burn down his palace and cause havoc.
