TV3’s Mentor credible than VGMA – Patience Nyarko

Gospel songstress, Patience Nyarko has discredited the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), terming it as bogus and full of deception.

The Popular artiste who was speaking on Power 97.9 FM alleged that she was robbed of a conspicuous award last Saturday night.

Her popular song, ‘Obi nnyane me’ which was nominated to the best Gospel song of the year category shockingly lost the award to Joe Mettle’s ‘Boo noni’ at the 19th edition of the event. She also did not win the Gospel Artiste of the year award.

Joe Mettle in an interview with Agyeman on Monday had admitted though his ‘Boo noni’ song was a hit song, Patience Nyarko’s ‘Obi nnyane me’ was much popular than his worship song that topped all gospel songs in the year under review.

But in an interview with Agyeman prempeh (Agyengo), host Power Drive, Patience Nyarko said she was shortchanged.

“I was clearly robbed. ..I think TV3’s Mentor programme is very credible than the VGMA,” she declared, saying that her life does not depend on the award.

“Gospel is not about awards but you know, the awards are to motivate. I am not depending on the awards though. I believe the hypocrisy has become too much and I will not keep quiet because as a Christian, you don’t have to keep things to yourself but voice it out.”

According to her, the popular television programme ‘Di Asa’ aired on Atinka TV is very credible than Charterhouse’s award scheme. She said in the past, she did not talk about her loss because he thought she was becoming better by the day and hoped her hit song, ‘Obi nnyane me’ would win an award.

When asked if she would want to be part of the VGMA after discrediting the annual event, Patience said: “I will speak but if Charterhouse thinks I have spoken out and for that matter they won’t nominate me again that’s fine.”

The W’afom Kwan hit maker says the title of her next album is “Wasisi me” (I’ve been cheated) but failed to explain if the title is in connection with Charterhouse, organisers of the VGMA.

But popular Music Producer, Fred Kyei Mensah, a panel member on the show said he was not enthused with the assertions of the Gospel musician.

“We don’t talk with emotions. Ebony’s father said the award is one of the most prestigious award schemes and Patience says it is not credible. You don’t have to burn bridges, I know the pain but she should tone down. What if Joe Mettle gets a gig and they ask he does it with Patience Nyarko. You see, there are some things we should be careful with,” he said.
