"Survivor Africa" has made me a better person -- Nokus

Nana Kwame Sarpong a.k.a. Nokus, is savouring his new-found fame after representing Ghana in the M-NET’s continental reality TV show, ‘Survivor Africa’. He says the programme has been his greatest experience in his life and that he has never regretted being part of it. He thinks it was an opportunity for him to sell himself and believes he has given a good account of himself.

‘Survivor Africa’ brought together twelve contestants from eight African countries to compete for a prize-money of US $ 100,000. Contestants were drawn from Ghana, Nigeria, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Kenya. Namibia, Ethiopia and Zambia, complete the line-up. The show, which was taped on an island in Panama, saw contestants grouped into two tribes to compete against each other in very rigorous and grueling challenges.

Nokus told JIVE that he entered the competition because it was an opportunity for him to test his survival instincts. “I thought I had already been through a lot rough times in life and ‘Survivor Africa’ presented another opportunity for me to test my tenacity” he says. “But for the most part, it was the adventure, experience and exposure it had to offer. A hundred thousand dollars is big money but my initial motivation wasn’t the money. It was a strong desire to prove something to myself and once again, I’ve proven to myself I can stand any challenge that comes my way.”

Nokus told JIVE that being on ‘Survivor Africa’ has not just opened doors of opportunities for him. It has also gotten him exposed to an experience which has enabled him become conscious of strengths and abilities he never thought he possessed. He’s very thankful to the organizers/producers of the reality show, Endemol South Africa, and encourages them to continue their “good work” in subsequent years. Nokus is very upbeat about what SURVIVOR AFRICA could do for the young people of the continent and says should it be continued, many of the youth will be challenged to take responsibility for their lives. “The next time it comes, go grab it. I’m not only referring to ‘Survivor Africa’. Should anything come up and you think you have the ability, the talent and what it takes to participate, just go for it. You never know what it might bring you.”

The show was taped in July and started airing on M-Net on the 3rd of September. The winner will be known in November. In the meantime, Nokus is back at Vibe FM, making sure he gives his listeners the best as he waits for the results of the competition. “For now I’m just being me. Just that I see myself at places I’ve never been before. Let’s see. If I win the hundred thousand dollars, I intend to spend wisely.”
