Stop pressuring me to marry – Nana Aba Anamoah cries out

If there is one question television anchor, Nana Aba Anamoah is getting tired of being asked, it is ‘when are you getting married. Perhaps the main reason why she has chastised critics for constantly probing about her unmarried status.

Speaking in an interview on Accra FM, the mother of one who was asked if she used to worry about her single mother status said she does not see a reason why that should be a bother.

The loudmouthed television anchor retorted: “Why would I be worried that I am not married? Are you worried that you are not dead?” she asked the host.

She was of the view that marriage is not what will guarantee her ultimate happiness.

“No one can be forced to get married; I don’t think there is anybody in this world who said that I hate marriage and nobody can also say that everything will be fine when they get married

“If it happens, it happens; if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. You don’t go around chasing shadows”.

She also expressed disgust about how society puts pressure on women to marry before a certain age.

“I don’t think it’s right for people to disturb anybody with marriage. There are people who are married and they are very happy, and we are also happy for them. Likewise, there are people who are married and they are sad, their life has become worse and we want them out of those marriages”, she observed.

As Africans marriage is very important to us not just for the normal institution it is, but also for the fulfillment of a certain status! In our society, there’s a greater expectation placed on women to be married at a certain age. As a result, there’s always pressure on especially ladies at a certain age to settle down with a man as in the case of Nana Aba Anamoah.
