'Stop criticizing Ofori Amponsah and pray for him'

Highlife musician turned Pastor, Ofori Amponsah has gone through a very tumultuous week, after Ghanaians unleashed on him some scathing attack over his decision to revert to doing highlife.

In the midst of the incessant backlash, the highly-revered legendary highlife musician, Daddy Lumba, has sprung to the defense of the ‘Alewa’ hit maker.

Daddy Lumba espoused the decision of his former mentee to Mikky Darling on Peace FM over the weekend.

He stated that Ghanaians should stop criticizing Ofori for his decision to get back into doing highlife music, and admonished the critics to pray for him and support his decision instead.

He went on to say that, Ofori’s move into the gospel fold was timely as it helped him to change his bad habits when he was on the musical pedestal.

Once he has been reformed, it was only appropriate that the singer follows his true passion and does what he know what to do best – highlife music.

According to him, he knew Ofori as a ‘church boy’ and when he was first introduced to him, ‘Mr. All4 Real’ presented two (2) CDs, one highlife and the other, gospel.

Lumba claimed that, if not for his involvement and urgings, Ofori would have started with producing gospel tunes. He finally advised that, Ofori should be encouraged to live an upright life and stick to producing good highlife songs and that – the unpleasant castigations may drive Ofori away from his true calling as a quintessential highlife artiste.

The release of the new highlife banger, ‘Alewa’ by the 12-time Ghana Music Award winner, has thrown music lovers into a state of confusion, with some supporting the move while many others chide him.
