Ghanaian comedian DKB has waded into the ongoing debate surrounding the arrest of content creators over comments made about President John Dramani Mahama, calling out what he describes as blatant hypocrisy.
His comments came in response to a post by popular investigative journalist, Mannesseh Azure, who had posted a quote from an open letter Mahama himself wrote to then-President Akufo-Addo in February 2022.
In that letter, Mahama had written: "President Akufo-Addo, you cannot continue to oppress the people, criminalize speech when these matters are essentially civil in nature, if you feel offended by them."
Azure’s post suggested that the current administration is now doing precisely what Mahama once publicly condemned.

However, DKB, in a post on X on May 22, 2026, dismissed attempts to frame the arrests as a crackdown on free expression.
He pointed to the arrest of the Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC who was arrested for false publication, and statements considered likely to cause fear and panic.
"So Abronye's issue is criminalization of free speech? Stop being ridiculous!" he wrote.
According to him, prosecuting people for false publication and death threats is not an attack on free speech.
DKB's post quickly gained traction, drawing thousands of views and sparking debate in the replies over the consistency of the government's position on free speech.
This latest development comes after the recent arrest of Akosua Serwaa Aminat Mahama, known online as "Bawumia Ba," who was arrested after making insulting remarks and allegedly threatening President Mahama and his wife and encouraging others to attack them.
She was subsequently granted GH¢1 million bail with two sureties.
