Starr FM’s Michael Mfum picks MFWA award

The Brong Ahafo Regional Correspondent of Starr FM, Michael Sarpong Mfum, grabbed the ultimate at the maiden Media Foundation for West Africa’s (MFWA) media contest on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reporting in Ghana.

Mfum was given GH¢10,000, a certificate and a plaque.

Michael’s feature story, titled: “Jaman South children choose gambling over education” explored how children of school going age in the Jaman South District in the Brong ahafo Region have abandoned their classrooms and instead engaging in gambling activities.

The story, which anchored its strength on the Goal 4 of the SDGs brought out how the increasing gambling activities in Ghana is diverting the attention of school going children from education.

Michael’s work was shortlisted together with five other journalists.

MFWA set aside the award scheme to encourage journalists to report on the SDGs and also increase the public knowledge on the concept.
