Stanbic Bank launches Jazz festival

Stanbic Bank Ghana on Wednesday launched a jazz festival in Accra dubbed “Stanbic Ghana Jazz Festival” to be held from May 9-11, 2014.

The festival, which is in collaboration with Smooth Jazz Ghana and Live FM in Accra would witness a performance by the world celebrated Jazz Musician, Peter White to be supported by other artiste such as Oli Slik, Ofie Kodjoe, Aka Blay and many others.

Speaking at the media launch, Mr Mawuko Afadzinu, Head of Marketing and Communication at Stanbic Ghana said the bank is a brand known for supporting arts and culture and the festival is a latest venture in that direction.

He said arts, is a very important arm of every society, hence the need to support it, especially the jazz music to expand its frontiers in the country.

“We hope to make the Stanbic Bank Ghana Jazz Festival a top on the global jazz calendar by presenting top-flight musicians to the people of Ghana. As a bank our association with such world class pool of talent is to buttress the point that we aim to deliver world class service, “he said.

Mr Afadzinu disclosed that, the ultimate aim is to nurture and promote the development of both the visual and performing arts, to be able to provide employment, training and skills development in all the related fields of technical production, including sound engineering, lighting, marketing and public relations, event management and hospitality.

Peter White, the guest artist, who plays the accordion and the piano is one of the most versatile and prolific acoustic guitarists of the contemporary jazz age.

Armed with an unparalleled combination, of lyricism and energy, he combines elements of jazz, pop and classical guitar to create a sound that is singular and at the same time accessible to a broad audience.
