Social entrepreneurs to converge at ‘TEDxHarambe: New Capitalism’

On November 4, 2010, Ghana’s young entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs, and corporate executives will gather in Accra to listen to and exchange ideas of how social value can be created through enterprise under the theme “New Capitalism.”

In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading," TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxHarambe, where x = independently organized TED event. At TEDxHarambe, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

TEDxHarambe will feature entrepreneurs whom apart from profit seek a second bottom line through their business ventures. Speakers like Stuart Gold (Founder/CEO, Trashy Bags), Jim Brenner (CEO, Broadcove Partners), Kafui Prebbie (CEO, 1village Africa), Yaw Owusu (Founder/MD, Gateway Innovations), Sander Smits van Oyen (MD, Sovec Fund), Dr. Dennis Larkin (Superintendant, Lincoln Community School), Kimathi Kuenyehia, Sr (Managing Partner, Kimathi & Kimathi, Corporate Attorneys), Kofi Bentil (Coordinator, mPedigree), Chiedza Makonnen (CEO, Afrodesiac Worldwide & Revolutionary Underground), Vincent Amponsah (Director, IDP Rising Schools Program), Muhtar Bakara (Publisher, Farafina, Kachifo Ltd), Elorm Goh (CEO, Food Transactions Ltd) will share how they are using new technologies, new models, and new ideas to not only create economic value but social value as well, something we call, New Capitalism.

TEDxHarambe is a FREE and open event for anyone who is interested in using their skills, talent and resources to better Ghana and Africa as a whole. Young entrepreneurs and people with an active interest in utilizing creativity for development are encouraged to attend.

TEDxHarambe is organized by Harambe Ghana and Business Minds Investment Club (BMIC) and is sponsored by Unilever Ghana, Coca Cola Bottling Company, Voltic Ghana Ltd., Broad Cove Partners, WEBS Design Business and Financial Times, Jungle Productions, IBurst Africa, Livestream, Augies Hotel, and Zepto, with the support of United Way Ghana and Orchid Hospitality Management Services.

It will run from 12 pm – 7 pm at the College of Physicians and Surgeons; Accra - No. 54 Independence Ave. near Ridge Roundabout.
