Africa’s most illustrious lifestyle magazine; Glitz Africa last Saturday organised the second edition of Ghana Women of the Year Honours at the Banquet Hall, State House.

The exclusive event honoured eight women with exceptional careers and achievements in the fields of business, media, health, education, corporate personality and arts and given trailblazer awards.

The main event was preceded by two other events which sought to empower women. It began with The “She Summit” which was held on the 11th and 12th of May at the Swiss Spread, Alisa Hotel, North Ridge at 9 am each day.

The selected honourees for 2017 awards included CEO of Sparrow Productions, Shirley Frimpong Manso (Excellence in Arts), Award winning musician, Wiyaala (Young and Gifted), Media Personality Dzifa Bampoh (Excellence in Media), Hon. Francisca Oteng-Mensah (Trailblazer), Dr. Theresa Oppong-Beeko (Excellence in Business) Joyce Ababio (Fashion Force), Eugenia Tachie-Menson (Activist) and Prof. Efua Hesse (Excellence in Health),

Other trailblazers who inspired other women were saluted for their hardwork in their various endeavours. They included Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings (Ghana’s First Woman to run for President), Frema Osei-Opare (Ghana’s First Female Chief of Staff), Charlotte Osei (First Female Electoral Commissioner), Madam Joyce Bamford-Addo (First Female Speaker of Parliament), Mrs Susuana Alhassan (First Female Minister of State), Mabel Dove Danquah (Ghana’s First Woman elected to the Ghanaian Parliament), Squadron Leader Selase Yayra Agbenyefia (Ghana’s First Female Helicopter Pilot, Lt. Cdr Faustina B. Anokye Boakye (First Female Ghanaian Naval Officer), Constance Ama Emefa Edjeanu-Afenu (Ghana’s Female Brigadier General) and Kaya Forson (Ghana’s First Female Olympic Swimmer).

The host for the night was Radio impresario, Doreen Andoh with entertainment provided by trio minstrels; MzVee, Adina, Irene Logan, Stephanie Benson, Faith Bekoe and Nana Yaa.

The prestigious night was graced by the many celebrities, which transformed it into one huge party for enduring souls, the tenacious sisters, the women standard bearers of Ghana.
